Kevin Connors Candidate StatementI am a life long Catholic with 16 years of Catholic school education, and an active supporter of VOTF, its Mission and Identity statements, and its three goals. If elected I look forward to serving a full two year term as Treasurer. I am a member of St. James parish, Seaford, LI New York for the past 46 years where I participated as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Stewardship Committee (Chair), Catholic Youth Board (Chair), Pastoral Council member, and religious education teacher. My professional experience includes over 35 years of general management experience in the financial services and managed health care industries. I also headed my own consulting firm specializing in Managed Care and Healthcare Cost Containment. I have a degree in economics from St. John’s University in New York, and an MBA degree from New York University (NYU). As a founding member of Long Island Voice of the Faithful, a registered not-for-profit corporation, I served as a member of its Board of Directors and its Executive committee. I was elected to four consecutive one year terms as Treasurer. During my tenure as Treasurer of LIVOTF, I participated in LIVOTF’s corroboration and publication of an independent analysis of diocesan financial statements which identified the existence of an excessive cash surplus of diocesan funds; development of a diocesan-wide restricted parish donation program called “Our $$ Make A Difference;” and diocesan-wide efforts to secure implementation of an elected, Representative Diocesan Finance Council to serve as a bridge between our Bishop and his appointed Finance Council, and the faith community. I also served as a member of the Tri-state (NY, NJ, and CT) leadership team, and coordinated a legislative trip to the NY state capital, and a news conference, in support of “windows” legislation. Since becoming Treasurer of National in 2008, I participated in development of a revised business plan that includes Revenue and Expense goals, and Liquidity standards, as part of the organization’s efforts to adjust to a changed business environment brought about by the economic down-turn, and the maturing of VOTF’s role in the reform movement. I also served on the organizing committee that planned the national VOTF conference on Long Island in October, 2009. During the past two years as Treasurer, I’ve seen how this organization, born out of crisis, adjusted to life-threatening crisis of its own. It has grown in wisdom and stature. It is ready to point the way to active lay participation in the governance and guidance of the Catholic Church. I seek the opportunity to continue contributing towards that goal as VOTF Treasurer. |
VOTF™ Mission Statement To provide a prayerful voice, attentive to the Spirit, through which the Faithful can actively participate in the governance and guidance of the Catholic Church.
