JIM MULLER
VOICE OF THE FAITHFUL CO-FOUNDER
TO SPEAK IN INDIANAPOLIS
Jim Muller, co-founder of Voice of the Faithful, the Catholic Laity's
response to the Clerical Sexual Abuse Scandal, will present "Keeping
Faith with Survivors: Beyond Boston's Sexual Abuse Scandal", at
St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Indianapolis, on Friday, June 6 at 7:00
pm. He will discuss the mission of Voice of the Faithful and the
way laity, hierarchy and clergy might work in partnership to create
a stronger Catholic Church. A survivor of clerical sexual abuse
and author of two books on the subject, John Michael Vore, will
tell his story.
Born and raised in Indianapolis and educated at St. Joan of Arc
Grade School, Cathedral High School, Notre Dame, and the Johns Hopkins
School of Medicine, Dr. Muller is a cardiologist and the associate
director of the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative
Technology, at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Muller has founded two social action groups. The first was
the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW),
which won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. The second, Voice of the
Faithful, was co-founded in January 2002, with a small group of
people gathering in a St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church meeting
room in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Jim's home parish. In less than
a year and a half, Voice of the Faithful has grown to approximately
30,000 members worldwide. The goals of the group are: to support
survivors of clerical sexual abuse, to support priests of integrity,
and to shape structural change within the church. The motto is:
Keep the faith, change the church.
The Indianapolis Voice of the Faithful meets once a month. For
further information, email votfindy@aol.com
or call 283-2273. Groups have been established in all Catholic dioceses
in the State: Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend/Gary, Lafayette,
and Evansville.
A Press Conference with Jim Muller will take place on the steps
of SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral, 14th and Meridian Sts., Indianapolis,
at 3:30 pm on Thursday, June 5, after his visit with Archbishop
Daniel M. Buechlein.
