Mass on the Common – August 15th
INFORMATION
Information for Parish Announcements and Bulletins:
Please join your fellow Boston area Catholics for a Mass on Boston Common, Sunday, August 15, from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. Let us all unite in solidarity and celebrate Eucharist as community.
The Mass is taking place at the Boston Common Parade Grounds, on the corner of Charles and Beacon Streets. In keeping with Boston Common tradition, there is no formal seating so please bring a blanket or a lawn chair and pack a picnic as there will be no food or beverage vendors. Program runs rain or shine!
PLEASE NOTE: We need volunteer Eucharist Ministers to help with the distribution of Communion, and a limited number of youth altar servers. Send your name, parish, city, phone number, and/or email address to Dorothy Kennedy, kendor713@yahoo.com .
Other volunteer needs include greeters, ushers, nurses, set-up, and clean-up. To sign up for one of these, please contact Ed Wade at 978-281-8583 or edwwad@man.com .
Transportation and Chartered Buses:
We strongly encourage parishes to carpool or charter a bus for this event. Parking in Boston is always limited, but there are several parking garages within a short distance of Boston Common. The Boston Common Garage is directly below the location of the Mass and is accessed via Charles Street. The garage at the Park Plaza and the Transportation Building are about one block away. If driving, head to the Theater District to park, then walk to the corner of Charles and Beacon Streets.
Buses can be chartered from a variety of companies listed in the Yellow Pages, or, try your local school department, Schools often charter their buses over the summer and over weekends for less than commercial bus companies. Some parishes are holding collections over several weekends to cover the cost of bus transportation.
Buses should drop off on Charles Street at the corner of Beacon and Charles. Return pick-up should occur no sooner than 6:00 p.m. along Charles Street. A map for the bus companies can be found at: www.cityofboston.gov/transportation/pdfs/map.pdf .
Transportation via MBTA and Train:
The MBTA Red and Green Lines stop at Park Street, directly under Boston Common. From the Park Street Station, walk diagonally across the Common to the Parade Grounds. From South Station transfer to the Red Line to Park Street; from North Station transfer to the Green Line to Park Street.
