News from Ireland (continued)

Archbishop Martin of Dublin isn’t backing Magee, probably because he knows he faces the worst report on an Irish diocese in Ireland’s history.  We (and he) are calling for accountability.  The rest of the bishops studiously ignore us.  Good people are suffering.  The clerical institution looks like one of those houses sliding slowly into a ravine, a brick at a time.  Rome looks bereft of all commonsense let alone any capacity to help.  What else is new?

An article in the Irish Business Post on Sunday last suggested the state too is under pressure to be accountable - from the independent watchdog or Ombudsman for children, Emily Logan.  No harm that either.  The second half of a perfect storm is brewing, while the Irish economy tanks also.  These two stories will probably run for at least the rest of this year.
