Bishop Geoffrey James Robinson has been a parish priest, a teacher of canon law and president of the Canon Law Society of Australia and New Zealand, and Chief Justice of the Archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal. After he was ordained as an auxiliary bishop of Sydney in 1984, he was Chairman of the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Board and the Catholic Education Commission of New South Wales. He holds degrees in philosophy, theology, and canon law from universities in Rome. He was appointed by the Australian bishops to lead the Church’s response to the sexual abuse crisis during the years 1994 - 2003. Since his retirement in 2004 he has written Confronting Power and Sex in the Catholic Church: Reclaiming the Spirit of Jesus (2007) and Love’s Urgent Longings (2010). |
