VOTF in the News

The Papal visit generated massive interest by the press in Voice of the Faithful. Our members were invited to speak on TV and radio news shows, asked to sit in on talk shows, called for their opinions by news outlets worldwide, and featured in numerous commentaries during and after Pope Benedict’s visit. All in all, some 200 different news outlets included VOTF in their reporting. Press coverage included news agencies like the Associated Press, Bloomberg News, Catholic News Agency, Reuters and UPI; magazines like Forbes, Time and U.S. News & World Report; American newspapers like the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today and the Washington Post; and foreign newspapers like the Guardian and the Telegraph in England. Electronic coverage included BBC, Good Morning America, National Public Radio, MSNBC and numerous local TV and radio stations.

Problem

Dismissed and Unsupervised Abuser Priests

Thousands of priests have been dismissed from their pastoral duties because of credible sex abuse accusations. But then what happens? Generally they are unsupervised by the Church and most of them never register as sex offenders because their cases have not gone to criminal court. Survivor advocates such as Voice of the Faithful and SNAP have long pointed out the inherent dangers of this situation. For example, Boston’s WBZ TV recently found more than 100 such molesters still living in the Boston area, many of them near schools.
