Voice
of the Faithful Focus – A brief update
highlighting both a problem in our church and some
progress being made as we work together to Keep the
Faith, Change the Church.
Problem
The news continues to bring stories about clergy sex
abuse —stories indicating that despite the
Charter for the Protection of Children, problems
continue. Consider these recent news stories:
- A
Connecticut priest who was formally accused in August
for sexually abusing a teenage boy was
recently arrested
for approaching the same boy again. Read
more.
- In
Florida charges were brought against a Monsignor
for allegedly abusing a refugee from the Dominican
Republic under threat of having him deported. Read
more.
Progress
In
spite of opposition by the Archdiocese of Denver,
the Colorado Supreme Court has allowed a consolidated
lawsuit accusing two Roman Catholic priests of
sexually abusing youngsters to proceed. The 11
cases allege the archdiocese was negligent in supervising
two priests, Reverend Harold R. White and Reverend
Leonard Abercrombie. The plaintiffs claim the archdiocese
concealed the abuse allegations and failed to protect
children from the priests. Read more.
