Note:
Our stalwart editor Peggie Thorp is taking some
long-deserved time away during July and August. I have
been asked to fill-in for her. I will continue her practice
of collecting information from people in Affiliates across
the country. In addition, I will be featuring various
aspects of the October Convention. Sally

Fall Action for 2007 leading to the National Convention
CONSCIENCE + COURAGE = DISCIPLESHIP
As VOTF’s National Convention nears, we move from an internal grounding
in conscience to the more active role of disciple. These
surveys will provide you with a tool to assess how your diocese
is doing in financial accountability, shared governance and child protection.
The results of these surveys will be summarized and compared diocese to diocese
at the convention giving each person a foundation for discussion and action.

Paul Lakeland and Catholicism
at the Crossroads in South
Los Angeles
VOTF of Southern Los Angeles sponsored Paul Lakeland on Sunday
June 10. Professor Lakeland gave a presentation entitled "Catholicism
at the Crossroads: How the Laity Can Save the Church". Over
100 attended the talk at St. Agatha Catholic Church in
Los Angeles. Professor Lakeland teaches at Fairfield University
and his talk was based on his new book of the same name
that
was recently published by Continuum. Professor Lakeland explained
the responsibility of the laity and clergy to share the work
of becoming an adult Church. VOTF Southern Los Angeles can
be contacted at votfsola@yahoo.com.
