Third Sunday in Lent, March 19, to Tuesday, March 21
Reflection
The first thought that came to my mind when I read today’s gospel was the task of having to go for water every day for the household. Many people in the Third World countries still have to walk miles for potable water. How fortunate most of us are in the United States to have ready access to tap water.
Many years ago we started to be concerned about the environment, and one of those concerns was wasting water. Have we repaired leaks? Do we let the water run more than is needed while showering and brushing our teeth? Is a lush green lawn a high priority?
How important is water in our faith life? At Baptism we are welcomed into the church with water and when we die, the priest meets us at the front entrance of the church and sprinkles the casket with holy water, the living water that quenches our thirst for the Living God.
