Press Release
The signing of Delaware Senate Bill 29
June 21, 2007 - Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) congratulates Delaware Governor
Ruth Ann Minner and the Delaware legislature for unanimously passing
Senate
Bill 29 which has been termed “the strongest bill for child sexual
abuse victims in the country." We are especially grateful for
the leadership of Senator Karen Peterson (D) and Representative Deborah
Hudson (R) in steering this bill through the legislature. VOTF finds
this bill especially notable since it holds not only the perpetrators
liable but also those institutions that allowed abuse to take place
through gross negligence.
John Sullivan, affiliate leader of the Coastal Delmarva affiliate of
VOTF said: “Delaware has taken the lead for the country. We hope
other states will follow and eliminate the statutes of limitation in
child abuse cases. I would also like to thank the many members of our
coalition, especially Dr. Tom Conaty, who have worked with the legislature
for so many years. Our long campaign to bring justice to survivors
of sexual abuse has finally paid off.”
